The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 goals and 165 targets to be achieved by 2030, adopted at the UN summit meeting held in September 2015. Designed to eradicate poverty and build a sustainable society, these objectives are to be accomplished through collaborated efforts among all stakeholders including businesses, governments, non-profit organizations, etc.

Guests may choose to have their rooms cleaned in eco-friendly methods that avoid over-cleaning, thus saving water and reducing CO2 emissions.

The water-saving device installed in the guestrooms reduces the use of water by approximately 50% without sacrificing the comfort of the guests.

Use of eco-friendly and sustainable amenity items and cutleries help reduce the burden on the environment.

The shampoo and conditioner offered as guestroom amenities are chemical-free with no artificial coloring or fragrances, their active substances being composed of natural plant-derived ingredients.

SATSUKI’s takeaway menus are offered in biodegradable cartons along with similar cutleries, that are made of dietary fiber.

Patisserie SATSUKI offers eco-friendly CPLA* plastic cutleries (subject to additional charges) with its take-away desserts.
*CPLA (Crystallized Polylactic Acid) is a compostable plastic made of cornstarch and other plant-derived starches.
・Reduction of food loss
Reservations are required for all buffets at Hotel New Otani Osaka, thus enabling us to estimate the amount of food required. Food from the buffets is served by staff wherever possible, contributing to the minimization of food waste as well as ensuring enhanced food sanitation.
・“ZENB” menus
Named after the Japanese word for "whole", ZENB is a groundbreaking food product brand that aims to make the most out of the ingredients used. Menu items using ZENB products are offered at restaurants within the hotel.

≪Sustainable Wellness menus≫
・SATSUKI’s Raisin Sandwiches
A sustainable sandwich cookie that uses soy butter, and cascara, which is the dried and ground skin and flesh of the coffee cherry that is said to have many health benefits.
・Multigrain “J-cereal” menus
“J-cereal” is Hotel New Otani’s original blend of eight grains used in a number of dishes served at our restaurants. The mixture includes foxtail and great millet, and amaranth from Iwate prefecture, and is rich in dietary fibers, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and polyphenols.
・Emergency drills
In light of its experiences during the Great Hanshin earthquake in 1995 and the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in 2011, Hotel New Otani Osaka conducts fire and emergency drills three times a year in order to enhance and maintain our disaster resilience. The hotel also participates in the local community’s simulation drills regarding accommodation of and support for stranded commuters.

The hotel stipulates a basic guideline against anti-social forces in order to eliminate any relationships with such organizations or individuals, and advocate the eradication of such forces.
