GION ODORI is a dance performed by the Maiko and Geiko of Gion Higashi Kabu-kai in Kyoto's historic entertainment district, Gion.

KEMARI MATSURI FESTIVAL

Place : Tanzan Shrine , Nara

Kemari Matsuri is Japanese Aancient ball-kicking festival.

KOTO HAJIME

Date : November 13
Place : Gion area, Kyoto

The traditional ritual and new year preparations begin in the Gion area.
Geiko and Maiko visit their teachers of traditional arts to express gratitude for the past year and best wishes for the year to come. You may have a chance to meet them if you walk the Gion district on that day.

SHICHI GO SAN

Date : November 15
Location : Almost all the shrines in Japan

" Shichi Go San " literally means "Seven Five Three".
SHICHIGOSAN is a traditional rite for 3 and 7 years old girls and 3 and 5 years old boys on/around November 15th in Japan.
Children dress up in a beautiful kimono and visit a Shinto Shrine with their parents.
If you go to a famous shrine, you will be able to see many lovely children all dressed up.

Light Up at Kodaiji Temple Koyo

You can enjoy the beautiful scene of the Temple Illumination at night.

ARASHIYAMA MOMIJI MATSURI FESTIVAL

Date : 2nd Sunday in November
Place : Arashiyama area, Kyoto
Admission fee : free of charge


Arashiyama is known as a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves. Around the Togetsukyo Bridge, visitors can enjoy traditional Japanese dancing, music and a kyogen theatre performance.

SHITENNOJI FLEA MARKET

Date : 21st and 22nd of every month
Place : Shitennoji Temple
Time : From morning to evening
Admission fee : free of charge

Shitennoji temple is the oldest Buddhist temple, built in Japan over 1,400 years ago.
A flea market has been held on the 21st and 22nd of every month for the last 200 years.
A lot of Osaka food that you can find here, such as Takoyaki, Yakisoba, Yakitori, Okonomiyaki and many more.
A walk through the market is always an interesting experience.

SHINNO MATSURI FESTIVAL

Date : Novembere 22 - 23 
Place : Sukuna Hikona Shrine , Osaka
Admisshion Fee : free of charge

Sukunahikona Shrine stands in the middle of the business district of Dosho-machi in Osaka.
Big market opens on this day, changing the quiet business district into a very lively entertaining area.

MIDO-SUJI ILLUMINATION

Date : end of November - early January
Location : Mido Suji Avenue, Osaka
Time: Around 5:00p.m. - 11:00p.m.  
Admission fee : free of charge

The roughly 4 km stretch of Mido-Suji Ave gets divided into eight areas and colored illuminations that fit the image of each area greet you all through the period.
