From December 28, 2024 to January 2, 2025, we offer a special plan for stays of 2 to 5 nights.
From December 31 to January 2, you can experience the traditional Japanese New Year.
Guests staying with this plan will receive event tickets (called Castle tickets) worth JPY 4,000 per person to enjoy the New Year's fair and workshops.
Right in front of the hotel is Osaka Castle, the setting for the historical drama “Shogun,” as well as a shrine perfect for a New Year's visit.

Traditional Japanese New Year's events at the hotel

Various special events will be held at Hotel New Otani Osaka between December 31 and January 2.

Shishimai: Lion Dance (January 1 and 2)

Lion dance or "Shishimai" is a traditional dance mimicking a lion's movements.
The dance is often performed for celebrations and is said to summon luck and fortune.

Date & time: 12:30pm and 5:30pm, January 1 and 2

Mochitsuki: Mochi Pounding (January 1 and 2)

A well-known Japanese tradition of making rice cakes ( mochi ) at New Year. People wish for good luck as steamed glutinous rice is smashed with a "kine", or a giant mallet, to make mochi.

New Year's Eve Countdown Party (December 31)

Join us as we bid farewell to the year 2024 and welcome the year 2025. We will celebrate the arrival of the New Year with powerful melodies played by traditional Japanese instruments such as Japanese drums, Tsugaru shamisen, shakuhachi, and shinobue.

Kakizome: New Year’s Calligraphy Writing (January 1 and 2)

Kakizome is the tradition of doing the first calligraphy writing of the year.
All equipment is ready, as well as advice from professional calligraphy instructors ( in Japanese only ).

Date & time:  11:00am-5:00pm, January 1 and 2

Otoso: New Year's spiced sake (January 1)

Otoso is the celebrative sake drunk at New Years, traditionally infused with various spices that were believed to bring good health and longevity to those who drink it.

Date & time:  7:00-9:00am, January 1

New Year's Fair “En-Nichi” & Workshop (December 31-January 3)

“En-Nichi” is a street stall held on New Year's Day and other festive days in Japan.
There will be games such as target shooting and fortune-telling.
Guests staying with this plan will receive an event ticket (called a Castle Ticket) to participate in the event.
