Night-time Illumination in the Japanese Garden

Autumn (until early November) 5:45pm - midnight
Winter (until early March) 4:30pm - midnight

The 10-acre Japanese Garden within Hotel New Otani Tokyo has a history of over four centuries. Its nighttime illumination was elaborately renewed in September 2014 as part of the hotel’s 50th anniversary project.
The illumination scheme is supervised by world-renowned lighting designer Motoko Ishii, most known for her works on various landmarks in Tokyo such as the Tokyo Tower and the Rainbow Bridge. The garden is divided into six areas and each are illuminated to beautifully enhance the landscapes, changing colors and expressions seasonally.

Sceneries at night from the renewed Hō banquet room and the stylish PALLAZO OTANI banquet room are captivating with a bouquet of colors, from the surreal ambience of the stone garden and the dreamy water reflections in the pond, to the garden's centerpiece Taikobashi Bridge that is lighted from below to showcase its vivid vermilion color.
The replacement of mercury and halogen bulbs with LED lights, along with the installment of solar time switches, has achieved a 70% decrease of power consumption post-renewal. The lower heat emission of LED lamps also contributes to the reduction of the environmental burden on the surrounding vegetation.
Come and enjoy the beauty of Hotel New Otani Tokyo’s Japanese garden, which is always open to staying guests and visitors alike.
